A school building returned to the community

The St Benedict's Resource Centre, in the former St Mary's school building beside the parish schools, recounts the growth of the area: the Grange Park estate opened in 1967-1968, St Benedict's school began in 1969 with 80 children, and by 1973 the two schools together held 972 pupils, later peaking above 2,000. When enrolment fell in the late 1980s, the St Mary's building was handed over in March 1996 as a community resource centre, which has now served the area for over 25 years.
