Timeline

  • 1970
    Housing development begins Residential development in the Donaghmede area began around 1970, eventually growing to around 6,000 homes.
  • 1974
    Parish constituted Holy Trinity Parish was constituted in 1974, formed from Grange Park, serving the Donaghmede, Clongriffin and Balgriffin areas.
  • 1977
    Foundation stone laid Archbishop Dermot Ryan laid the foundation stone of the church in July 1977.
  • 1978
    Church opened The church opened in December 1978.

People

  • Joe Collins First parish priest, 1975 to 1979 — Established early parish structures and the Trinity Gaels GAA club; died six months after the church opened, and Fr Collins Park is named in his memory.
  • Dermot Ryan Archbishop of Dublin who laid the foundation stone — Laid the foundation stone of the church in July 1977.
  • Dermot O'Mahony Administrator who dedicated the parish — Appointed administrator of the area by Archbishop Dermot Ryan, and dedicated the parish to the Holy Trinity.
