Ballyowen Castle remains inside a shopping centre

Remains of the Norman-era Ballyowen Castle, within the parish area, survive built into the stonework of a modern Eurospar shopping centre, including old doorways, windows and steps, according to the parish history page.

Timeline

    Lucan becomes a separate parish Lucan became its own parish, and Balgaddy was transferred to it from Clondalkin parish, according to the Lucan South parish history page.
  • 1995
    Parish of Divine Mercy, Lucan South, established The Lucan South parish history page states the parish was established in December 1995. The Archdiocese of Dublin parish directory instead gives 1996 as the year the parish was constituted from St Mary's, Lucan; this is a conflict between sources.
