Parish of Swords constituted The parish of Swords was constituted in 1608, according to the Archdiocese of Dublin.

1827
Present church built The present St Colmcille's church was built in 1827 at a cost of about 1,820 pounds, on a site given free of charge by James Taylor of Swords House to parish priest James Vincent Carey, replacing an older chapel closer to Main Street.

1879
Vestry added A two storey vestry was added to the rear of the church in 1879.

1923
Steeple built A steeple was built in 1923 to 1924, at a cost of about 149 pounds 16 shillings 5 pence, with further alterations to the vestry's appearance.

2001
Current altar installed The current altar and marble altar rails were installed in 2001 as a memorial to Rev David Mulcahy.

- James Vincent Carey Dominican friar and parish priest who secured the site for the 1827 church — According to the parish's own history, Carey served as parish priest of Swords for about fifty years and secured the site for the present church free of charge from James Taylor of Swords House.
