Temporary wooden chapel opened A temporary wooden chapel served the area from 1898, according to the local history source.

Parish established The parish was established in 1906 with Fr Thomas Hogan as first parish priest.

Preliminary plans approved Preliminary plans by W.H. Byrne and Son were approved in April 1909, with revised plans approved in December 1909.

Formal opening The church was formally opened on 28 June 1914 by Archbishop William Walsh.

- W.H. Byrne and Son Architects of the church — The firm designed the church, with plans approved in 1909, and also designed the altars.
- Joshua Clarke and Sons Stained glass studio — Credited with fifteen of the church's stained-glass windows. This studio, founded by Harry Clarke's father, preceded the later Harry Clarke Studios.
- Ludwig Oppenheimer Mosaic maker — The Manchester firm of Ludwig Oppenheimer made the mosaic tiling of the four Evangelists on the sanctuary floor.
